My top 3 mistakes that hurt my career and my metabolism

Do you ever wonder how you got here??

First of all, let me ask you…

Are you happy with where you are at right now? 😃  

-or-  

Are you a bit disappointed? 😔

You know there’s more to life.  

You didn’t think it would be so difficult.  

You want to find more happiness or fun or peace in your life.

Every day in our lives, we make hundreds (maybe thousands) of choices and decisions.
It could be as simple as deciding to take 3 breaths before yelling at our kids or raiding the pantry.
I just want you to know that you are right here/right now because of ALL these choices (big and small) every day.

Personally, I can say that I am proud of where I am at right now BUT WOW, I made a ton of mistakes!

I struggled for a long time to find my true calling and during those years, I also struggled with my health, anxiety, gut, cravings, and motivation too.

I’d like to share the main mistakes I made along the way because there are some beautiful learning lessons that I know can help YOU.

➡️ In college, my education was strictly clinical (treating disease). Graduating from University of Pittsburgh, I became a Registered Dietitian and I worked in hospitals and nursing homes.

⛔ MISTAKE #1:
Even though I am proud to be a Registered Dietitian, I hated the clinical scene. With all the regulations, it was hard to make real connections with patients and truly help them.  And all the clinical formulas (calculating your caloric needs and metabolic rate) was not adding up in real life.  To this day, there is a HUGE discrepancy between the clinical definition of metabolism (calories in = calories out) and what’s really happening in the body.

➡️ Next, I became a Certified Personal Trainer and worked in the gym setting.  I was getting closer to finding my purpose but I still couldn’t figure out how nutrition fit in.

⛔ MISTAKE #2:
In the gym world, you are supposed to eat tons of protein to build muscle and shred fat.  A trainer’s diet consists of chicken, chicken, eggs, egg whites, protein powder, and maybe some broccoli and rice.  When working out hard and eating this way, everyone struggles with cravings and ends up gaining weight in the end (while feeling defeated and exhausted).

➡️ When Brian and I moved to California, I started to see the light.  I worked with holistic doctors and was taught a whole new way to HEAL the body from the inside out.  I worked for a famous endocrinologist, Dr Schwarzbein, for a long time.  She helped me understand how hormones and blood sugar can make or break your metabolism.

At this point, I was a mom with 2 little ones.  Since I was a Type-A go-getter and trying to prove something to myself, I started a healthy meal delivery service in Santa Barbara along with my other consulting gigs.  I had more knowledge and confidence as a nutritionist but I was overextended with a FULL schedule of work and family.  

⛔ MISTAKE #3:
With too many obligations, too much stress, and not enough time, my health started to go downhill.  I knew I needed to find more life balance.

When my family moved back to the east coast, I made a decision to create the life I wanted.  Yes, I enjoyed teaching nutrition and exercise, but I also craved more quality family time, simplicity, and peace in the mind.  This is when I started to teach yoga and meditation.  This is when I stopped all the rushing and I set boundaries around my schedule.  This is when I blended my passions with my career (nutrition, exercise, stress management, mindfulness, and balanced family home).

And right now… All of this led me to YOU.
