“My Metabolism is Broken”

“My metabolism is broken”Is this an ongoing thought for you??

So many of my clients tell me this:

  • “I have struggled with my weight my whole life.  I just have a slow metabolism” 
  • “Diets work for other people but not for me.”
  • “This diet used to work and now it no longer works.”

I’m not going to lie to you.  If you have struggled with your weight for a while and you are prone to dieting and lifestyle extremes, you may have significantly damaged your metabolism.  BUT it does not mean that it is broken.  💔

Remember the TV show, The Biggest Loser?

Obese individuals competed to lose weight in a short amount of time. They worked with teams of doctors, nutritionists, and personal trainers and saw amazing results in just 30 weeks.

Well…. Researchers evaluated 14 contestants from an early show and you are not going to believe the results!!!

Short-term Results (evaluation within the 30 week season):

The contestants who experienced drastic weight loss, slowed down their metabolic rate drastically within the 30-week season (meaning that their body started burning less calories).  Another important fact is that their leptin levels plummeted.  This is the hormone that helps regulate hunger.  Therefore, these contestants felt constantly hungry.

Long-term Results (6 years later):

This is horrible…13 of the 14 contestants regained all their weight back.  And more importantly, their metabolism never rebounded.  So now their body is still burning less calories, even with the weight back on.  And guess what? … Their leptin level stayed ultra-low too, so they are still constantly hungry.

This ugly scenario should be a warning to all of us.  Almost all fad diets, calorie deprivation, no carb programs, fasts, cleanses, diet pills, and extreme exercise will never provide you with long-term weight loss success. It will only damage your metabolism in the long run!

💥 So, the big question is HOW DO YOU FIX OR HEAL YOUR METABOLISM?

Like I said before… Your metabolism may be damaged, but it is not broken.  It just takes a new mindset, the right knowledge, and the courage to do it right.
