Sweet Cravings

I doSugar Cravingsn’t know about you, but I am always struggling with sugar cravings.  Between my clients and my own experiments, I have some solutions that truly work – some are obvious and some will take you by surprise.

Sugar is BAD.  Out of all the known bad foods and nutrients in our diet, sugar is on the top of the list.   It causes disease and candida overgrowth, lowers immune function, and heightens our cravings.  Once you consume sugar and sweets on a regular basis, the cycle is hard to break!

Why do we crave sugar?  The main reason sugar cravings occur is because there is a drop in the blood sugar, therefore I am going to teach you how to stabilize your blood sugar.  The other reason is from habit.  Many people are used to eating something sweet after dinner so they crave dessert, whether they are hungry or not.

How do we conquer sweet cravings?

  • Balance your meals:  You need to have some carbohydrates in your meal for fuel, but make sure you balance those carbohydrates with some protein, healthy fat and veggies.  Balancing those carbohydrates allows them to absorb slowly.  Clients who follow this guideline notice reduction in cravings right away!
  • Eat small frequent meals:  When you balance your meals and eat smaller meals every 3-4 hrs, you will have total control of your cravings.  My nutrition workbook elaborates on these key steps to balance your blood sugar.
  • Consume quality carbohydrates:  Simple sugars like soda and candy will cause more cravings so eat more complex carbohydrates,  like beans, real whole grains, and starchy veggies.
  • Detox your liver:  When clients complete my detox program, their two main benefits are weight loss and elimination of cravings (sweet cravings are not just minimized – they are gone).
  • Utilize my Natural Cleanse Detox Shake:  Once a client completes my detox program, they can utilize my Natural Cleanse shake as a maintenance plan to keep the body cleansed ongoing and in control of cravings.  This medical foods shake works wonders with cravings!
  • Stay hydrated and drink lots of water:  If you are dehydrated, you are more likely going to overeat and indulge in sweets.  Drink water evenly through the day to prevent dehydration and if a craving comes along, drink another glass of water.
  • Drink herbal tea with stevia:  Herbal flavored teas have a naturally sweet flavor.  Add some drops of Stevia and you have a satisfying drink that will quench a sweet craving.  I usually sip on herbal tea at night after dinner.
  • Supplement with a tsp of coconut oil:  Try adding 1 tsp of coconut oil to smoothie and supplement with all your meals.  You will be shocked how it helps keep you satisfied and minimizes cravings.
