Stop worrying about your appearance!

I just got back from a 4 day surf getaway with my husband (check us out on a wave together).  It was awesome and I had an epiphany while there that I’d like to share with you.  Here is my journal entry:

Brian and I have visited El Salvador numerous times, mostly for the surf but also for the cheap housing and food. However my absolute favorite thing about El Salvador is the people. They all are so incredibly kind!!  Even though my Spanish sucks, every single local made eye contact with a big smile and said “hola”.  My heart is so warm from our visit.
I had an epiphany in El Salvador. These extremely happy people don’t have many material things. In fact they don’t have much at all. Our accommodations only cost $25 a night. It was small, basic and a little dirty but it did the job. The lighting was absolutely horrible and the bathroom mirror was so small but guess what…it felt totally liberating to not know what I looked like. No one dresses up and there are many overweight people. But no one really cares what they look like and I truly believe we were all happier because of it.
Bottom line:
Get rid of all mirrors – haha (actually, it’s not a bad idea).  Seriously, stop worrying about your appearance and stop comparing yourself to others.  Create your own path of health from the inside out…be proud and keep smiling.  Instead of focusing on negative stuff and what you don’t have, live in full gratitude for all that you have. You will be a happier person.

Hi Betsy I read your journal on your trip to El Salvador and it does make sense not to worry so much because really nobody cares except us. The pictures was really cool. So nice to see you and your husband enjoying each other’s company in activities that you both love. As I know we get older everyday it can be something new with our bodies are we just pay attention to the symptoms in take care of them before they get out of hand. Thanks for all your wonderful recipes I do enjoy them.
