Immune Boosting Supplements

It’s that time of year again…the weather is changing, so many kids are sick at school, lots more travel and so many germs out there. Let’s be proactive and have some immune boosting tools in our toolbelt. This is my Immune Boosting Protocol:

Ortho Multi:
Ortho Multi is my favorite well balanced potent multi that absorbs well (softgels).
• Recommended dose: 2 softgels at a meal
• Increase to 2-4 if sick

Probiotics:
• Think of probiotics as a healer for your GI tract and immune system.
• Most quality probiotic supplements need to be refrigerated.
• My basic probiotic is called 8 Billion (Acidophilus and Bifidus Bacteria).
• Beneficial to take at bedtime: 1-2 caps/day baseline
• Increase to 2-4 if sick
• If you have significant bowel issues, it’s smart to upgrade to a stronger probiotic.

Vitamin D, 2000-5000IU:
• 85% of Americans are deficient in D!
• Normal blood range is usually 30-100ng/ml – aim for the upper end (at least 50ng/ml). Dosing depends on your blood level.
• If you do not have labs, it’s smart to start with the baseline dose (but ask your doc): Vitamin D 2000.
• If your blood level is 40 or below, I usually recommend Vitamin D 5000. Again, ask your doc.

Stellar C:
Stellar C is a potent and highly absorbable mixture of Vitamin C sources.
• 1-2/day can help give the immune system a boost.

Zinc:
• Zinc Supreme is my go-to Zinc Supplement. It’s nice to have on hand for the whole family.
• If caught early, Zinc has been shown to shorten the duration of a cold.

I am not an expert in herbs but I am a fan of herbal supplements and essential oils as well.
