Balanced Smoothies and Salads

smoothie and saladSince I am a sun and water goddess, summer is my favorite time. I also love all the ripe and healthy seasonal fruits and vegetables. The toughest part for myself and my clients is planning ahead and preparing wholesome balanced meals and snacks. It’s too hot to cook and it’s hard to plan ahead with the summer chaos. My advice is to eat lots of salads and smoothies. If you keep stocked with tons of fruits and veggies, salads and smoothies are simple to make and your body will thank you. With such a healthy clean diet, you can squeeze in an ice cream cone or cocktail without the guilt.

SMOOTHIE IDEAS (smoothie recipes below)
Most smoothies sold at restaurants and stores are loaded with sugar (approx. 100 grams)! I always recommend that my clients make their own and pay special attention to the balance (adding healthy protein to their shake).
Make sure to add protein to your smoothies:
Real nut butters
Healthy protein powders (don’t be fooled by the processed crappy versions at the store)
Greek yogurt
Other healthy smoothie ingredients:
Unsweetened coconut or almond milk
Flax meal
Greens (spinach is my favorite)
Cocoa powder

SALAD IDEAS (salad recipes below)
When making a salad, make sure to balance it properly by adding some protein and carbohydrates. Most people skip the carbohydrates which is not fulfilling for your metabolism or tummy. Also, try other kinds of salads like bean and grain salads.
Make sure to add carbohydrates to your salads:
Fresh or dried fruit
Canned mandarin sections, drained
Peas
Corn
Beans
Rice
Quinoa
Salad Protein Options:
Hard boiled eggs
Nuts & seeds, including hemp and chia seeds
Cheese
Meat/Poutry
Fish/Shellfish
Soybeans/Edamame
Other healthy salad ingredients:
Olives
Avocado
Water chestnuts
Cabbage
Caramelized onions
Roasted peppers
Sprouts
