I am a firm believer in eating small frequent meals throughout the day. When I transition a client from a few big meals to 4-6 small healthy meals, they have:
- Loads more energy (no mid-day crash)
- Control over their cravings
- Better sleep
- Improved metabolism (lose weight easier – the right way)
PLANNING AHEAD:
The tough part about eating 5 meals a day is that you have to plan ahead and have healthy options readily available. FYI – If you regularly eat meal replacement bars or shakes for your 5/day, this does not count as a healthy diet that will revamp your metabolism. The good news is that planning ahead and prepping a few key ingredients is not tough. Let’s start with a few easy ideas:
- Make big batches of smoothies (checkout my healthy smoothie ideas)
- Make a batch of hard-boiled eggs: add to salads, make egg salad, or just combine with fruit for a balanced snack
- Make little baggies of trail mix: I like to use a 4:1 ratio of nuts to dried fruit to minimize extra sugar
- Always shop for staple snack foods, like: fruit, raw chopped veggies, nuts, hummus, edamame, olives, popcorn, healthy crackers
