Meal Schedule

After working at Sunshine Wellness for a bunch of years, I have learned a lot from my boss and registered dietician Betsy.  Among many other things, I think the most important concept I have picked up has been the importance of eating consistently throughout the day.  Our full plan of meals includes breakfast, lunch, dinner, and two mid-day snacks to keep people full throughout the day, which is an eating plan I have found is very important for me to follow.  I often find myself rushing in the morning and skipping breakfast, only to find myself with a headache and upset stomach around noon.  The same goes for any other time of day-if I skip lunch, I feel bad come dinner time.  For me, it comes down to more than just eating on time.

I know I need to organize myself in all aspects of the day-what time I go to sleep, what time I wake up, and how I set aside time throughout the day to snack and take breaks to make sure I don’t cause myself any discomfort.  I need to stay regular with my schedule!

As I’m sure Betsy would agree, eating multiple, smaller-sized meals might definitely help you feel better throughout the day.  So, the next time your stomach starts rumbling in between meals, try veggie sticks and crackers with any number of dips that sound good-and think outside the box-for crudite, try jicama, cucumber, cherry tomatoes, or lightly steamed broccoli instead of the usual carrots and celery.  For a change-up with dip, try spicing up a regular store-bought hummus with roasted red peppers.  And for a delicious gluten-free cracker the SW Crew has recently discovered, check out ‘Mary’s Gone Crackers’ organic crackers available at specialty shops here in SB.  They are made from organic whole grain brown rice, organic quinoa, organic flax seeds and organic brown sesame seeds, and taste great!  Happy snacking!
