Healthy Holiday Recipes and Tips

healthy-holidaysI have written a ton of nutrition articles focused on healthy holiday eating and New Year’s resolutions.I always provide my readers with lots of realistic tips and easy healthy recipes but to be honest with you, I wonder if people are listening because most people have the same struggles every year. This year, let’s do it right!!! Get started now and follow my top 3 tips and my favorite healthy recipes (that’s it).

Betsy’s Top 3 Holiday Tips:

1.       Try to eat small frequent meals/snacks throughout the day.  Blah, blah – I am sure most of you have read this before, but this is the most important time to actually do it.  If you eat every a balanced snack every 2-4 hours, I guarantee you results!  You will make better decisions because your cravings and portions will be controlled.  Your body will be energized which will promote regular exercise.  Here is a list of healthy balanced snack ideas.

2.        Choose your beverages wisely.  Between all the eggnog, apple cider, sodas, and alcoholic drinks, I can promise that these empty calorie/high sugar beverages will pack on the pounds.  Aim to drink at least 8 cups of water a day. There’s no need to drink juice, sports drinks, energy drinks or diet beverages throughout the day.  If you are drinking socially, here are  alcoholic beverages that won’t pack on pounds.

3.         Exercise every day.  Stay active over the holiday season.  It may balance out some of your holiday treats and relieve stress.  Even if your schedule will not allow you a full exercise session every day, aim to be active for at least 20 minutes every day. If stress is wearing you down, try to include a rejuvenating activity to your regimen, like yoga.  Read more about the benefits of yoga here.
