Are YOU at the Bottom of the List?

From my experience, this issue is more common with women, especially moms.  If you are guilty of putting yourself and your needs at the bottom of the list, this article is for you.  Considering this is a new year and a new decade, let’s change this now!  You are your #1 priority.  Your health, your mind and your actions are truly the only things that you can control.  Let’s put your energy there.

2 Essential Truths:

  1. If you do not take care of your health, sooner or later, you will not feel well and you will not be able to take care of others.  It’s not until you are truly sick that you understand this fact.
  2. If you do not take care of yourself and your mindset is in an ugly place, you will not be helping others. 

Few Questions for You:

Are you the Martyr?
Being Martyr is a role you play and hide behind.  You take care of everyone first and you are at the bottom of the list. You probably feel overextended, underappreciated and frustrated.

  • Schedule time in for yourself (regularly – daily!)
  • Set boundaries with your family and work.  Communicate why you need to set these boundaries.
  • It’s ok to say “NO”.  Seriously, the world will move on.

Do you have a Type-A Personality?
This type of behavior is categorized by an intense drive to achieve goals.  You hate the idea of wasting time because you need to check things off your never ending to-do list.  True relaxation is difficult because your mind is always racing.

  • Use your goal-oriented brain for a good purpose… Schedule in a daily session to tune out your racing mind, like meditation, deep breathing or yoga.  5-20 minutes is all you need, as long as you are consistent.
  • If your never ending to-do list is overwhelming, ask for help.  Delegate tasks.
  • Live in the moment by finding some activities that bring you true joy and release.
