Flaxseed Oil
vs.
Fish Oil

You can obtain the essential Omega 3 fatty acids from both fatty fish and flaxseeds. However it’s absorbed much better from fish oil.

FIsh Oil: These Omega 3’s (EPA and DHA) are absorbed directly into our body providing us with it’s wonderful anti-inflammatory benefits.

Flaxseed Oil: These Omega 3’s are not readily available to our body. Our bodies need special enzymes to perform an extra step in the conversion process. Many people have little of these enzymes so very less than half of the Omega 3’s are absorbed.

What Supplements Should I Take?

Many people ask me "What Supplements should I be taking?". It’s a good question because there are many factors that should be considered. In this article, I am going to break it down for you as simply as possible.

Note: My intention is to help you through this confusing process, not to push my products on you. I’d love for you to try out my high quality nutritional supplements but more importantly, I’d like to gain your trust. I have 10 years experience working with holistic practitioners, MD’s, supplement companies, and thousands of patients. I have a minimalist approach because we all know that nutritional supplements should be used to supplement your diet.

Step 1: Cover the Basics

Almost everyone should be taking two important dietary supplements:

1. High quality Multivitamin and Mineral Supplement:

Nobody’s diet is perfect and our current food supply is lacking nutrients due to over-farming and over-processing. Therefore, it only makes sense to cover yourself by taking a good daily multi.

My favorite multi is potent and well assimilated yet it only requires 1-2 softgels a day.

2. Pure and Potent Omega 3 Fish Oil:

Unless you are eating fatty fish on a daily basis, you are probably not getting enough Omega 3 fatty acids. Omega 3 fish oil improves brain clarity, skin, heart health, inflammation and insulin sensitivity.

Babies and children NEED Omega 3’s for their rapidly developing brains. For adults, I usually recommend at least 1000mg of Omega 3’s (DHA/EPA) as a maintenance dose .

Many companies trick you by stating that their product has 1000mg of fish oil. Note: 1000mg of fish oil does NOT equal 1000mg of Omega 3’s. Always read the supplement facts to evaluate mg of Omega 3’s (DHA/EPA).

My favorite Fish Oil Supplement has 750mg of absorbable Omega 3’s in each softgel which is pretty potent and it is affordable.

Step 2: Address Your Current Health Status

Once you have covered the basics with a quality multi and fish oil supp, it’s important to address your current symptoms and conditions to see if anything else is missing.

Below are some common conditions. For each problem area, I listed the key supplement that have been shown to provide the most support and relief. Click on the supplement links to learn more. And if you want more personalized nutritional support, email betsy@SunshineWellnessInstitute.com for a free analysis.

  • GI Problems: Probiotics are a must for anyone with gastrointestinal issues, like constipation, diarrhea, bloating and any GI disease.
  • Cardiovascular: Coenzyme Q10 is essential for anyone who is on a Statin drug, like Lipitor or Zocor.
  • Sleep Issues: Through my experience of experimenting with many natural sleep aides, my clients have had the best success with 5-HTP.
  • Bone Health: Most people take Calcium and Magnesium to prevent bone loss, but I have found that high dosing of Vitamin D are more supportive. Vitamin D dosing recommendations are listed here.
  • Insulin Resistance: Chromium plays an important role in glucose and fat metabolism.
  • Menopause: For women who experience hot flashes, Estrovera is a natural option that has been clinically proven to greatly reduce symptoms.

On a personal note, my family is wrapping up our 3 month adventure through Central America. It has been a beautiful experience meeting so many amazing people, learning Spanish, surfing daily, and taking in all this nature. I feel blessed to be able to continue my business that I love while exploring the world. Thank you all for supporting me and my business!

I hope you find my programs, my nutrition workbook and resource guide, 7 and 9 day detox programs , and consulting packages, helpful in supporting you through your wellness and life journey.

Sincerely ,
